Danielle Lewis-Egonu has spent more than two decades working at the intersection of education, leadership and social justice. She began her career as a teacher, going on to lead schools and trusts, serve as a trustee and governor, and advise organisations navigating the most complex challenges in the sector.
Her particular focus has always been on the children and young people most likely to be failed by systems — those in care, those excluded, those whose potential is too often invisible to the institutions meant to serve them. She brings to this work not only professional expertise but a deep personal commitment to the idea that every child deserves to be truly seen.
Alongside her work in education, Danielle has built a reputation as a speaker and facilitator who brings intellectual rigour, warmth and an unflinching willingness to name what others avoid. She works with boards, senior leadership teams and whole organisations to examine culture honestly, surface difficult questions and build the conditions for genuine change.
She is the founder of SenseCheck Studio, through which she offers strategic advisory services, keynote speaking and organisational development work. She is also a writer — of essays, articles, poetry and reflections — and believes that ideas, carefully expressed, are among the most powerful tools available to anyone trying to change the world.
What guides the work
The most useful thing anyone can offer an organisation is an honest account of what they see. Danielle's work is grounded in the belief that clarity — even when uncomfortable — is always more valuable than reassurance.
Every piece of work, however strategic or structural, is ultimately about whether children — especially the most vulnerable — are better served. That question is never far from the surface.
Danielle is drawn to ideas that move between disciplines, that connect the personal and the systemic, and that help people see familiar problems in unfamiliar ways.
Challenging work does not require a cold or adversarial approach. The most effective conversations — in boardrooms, on stages, in writing — are those that hold people with care while asking them to think harder.
